2k option - new in 2026

the 2k option

The 2k swim course is a new option in 2026. Following feedback that the step-up from 1k to 3k is rather daunting, we are trialing a 2k option for the first time. It went well in July with 11 swimmers. The number has doubled for August.

Taking off from the slipway at Ellen's Rock swim past the first 2 orange buoys on your right, turning right at the 2nd to swim towards corner 1. The 3rd orange buoys marks that corner. Swim around it keeping it on your right shoulder.

Here comes the tricky bit: the fast 5k swimmers will follow you to that point. In order to avoid any collisions we need you to swim away from the route you took to get to this buoy by swimming towards the mainland. Then turn back keeping the 2 headlands on your left before returning straight towards the slipway.

In the event that the sun is setting it will be difficult to make out the slipway. Sighting becomes important, as it always does in open water. The bungalow ahead is left of the entry to the inlet at Ellen's Rock.
